| April 21, 2012 UC Davis Annual "Picnic Day" where each year tens of thousands of people ascend on the otherwise orderly and safe UC Davis campus and the quaint friendly downtown of Davis, California. Had freshman Jane Doe had an idea of the imminent dangers that lay ahead, of all nights, she would not have ventured out on this one: |

"Most student associations are not able to deal with strangers who crash the area with the ambiance of Mardi Gras or Carnivale in behaviors." examiner.com
"Two years ago, Picnic Day resulted in huge problems in the community, as heavy drinking and a large out-of-town population resulted in huge numbers of assaults that threatened the prospect of future Picnic Days "vanguard of davis
"Picnic Day arrests in downtown Davis a concern again this year" the sacramento bee

Following the festivities of "Picnic Day" Jane Doe (18 yr old Caucasian UC Davis student), her intoxicated roommate Adriana (18 yr old hispanic UC Davis student), roommates friend Kayla (18 yr old African American UC Davis student), and Patrick Pinkerton (24 yr old Caucasian male who offered, purchased and provided the alcohol) walked a few blocks off campus to the Jack in the Box to get something. While walking back, ten African American males (not UC Davis students and all wearing matching T-shirts with the image "Justice for Oscar Grant" on the front) blocked their path and began talking to them.

One of the males who went by the name of "Jewel" said "I want the little one" putting his arm around Adriana. Jane Doe's rapist who went by the name "PT" said "I want this one" putting his arm around Jane Doe. PT (6'3") with an intimidating stance had Jane Doe (5'6") put a number into her phone and made her text her name to that number. Around this time PT took off his matching shirt.
|
| They began walking, a few minutes later Patrick Pinkerton left the girls stating he was going back to their dorm area. The ten males began stating that they wanted to go to their dorm and that they had never seen a college dorm. When their statements were avoided, the girls were led back to the Jack in the Box where the ten males cars were located. |
| |
The ten male strangers began stating how they wanted to take them to dinner. Red flags had been going off in Jane Doe's head the entire encounter, she pulled the other girls a couple feet away from the cars and said "No, we are not going with them". The girls were in favor of going with the males. Adriana stated it would "be an adventure" and Kayla stated "these are my people nothing is going to happen to us". Adriana and Kayla got into the van. Jane Doe was feeling scared for the girls and did not know what was going to happen to them. She had not yet made up her mind to get into the van when she was pulled in by PT and situated on his lap.
The minute the van door shut and they entered the freeway heading away from Davis Jane Doe could only imagine what would happen to her and the girls. Jane Doe asked where they were going, she got no response. She asked again, she got no response. She leaned back and asked Kayla to ask where they were going, Kayle did and Jewel answered "we need to go by my house to get some money".
Twenty-six miles later they arrived at the house (images on current page). During the time at this house while outside comments such as "you look scared", "you don't need to be scared", and "everything is consensual" were made to the girls. At one point, Jewel put his arm around Kayla and said "She's cool, she's one of us. He put his arm around Adriana and said "and she is one of us too" He looked at Jane Doe and said " but you, you are not one of us, I don't know about you, you are white" Less than a minute later PT grabbed Jane Doe by the back of the arm and said " why don't we go and have a private conversation" He walked Jane Doe into the back room of the house and violently raped and sodomised her for over an hour.
A million thoughts raced through her head, if she tries to get to her phone and dial 911, they have guns, will there be a scuffle with the police, will they take her hostage, will she be killed? At one point during this attack Jane Doe reached for her phone and tried to text her I am in danger code word "pineapple" to the girls hoping they would stop the horrible pain being inflicted on her. This predator knocked the phone from her hand and it landed far out of her reach.
After this brutal rape, this predator left the room, Jane Doe put her jeans, flip flops, "human equality" T-shirt and jacket back on, and found her phone to dial 911 at that moment another stranger came to the door and said with force " hey, what are you doing". Jane Doe disheveled and in terrible pain, made her way out of the house to Adriana and told her what happened. Adriana replied "Oh my God" and hugged her.
The other 9 males said amongst each other "where is PT?" One of them replied "he is sleeping" They looked at Jane Doe and said "I bet he is" Shortly after they said "come on, get in the car, I guess we are driving you back". Three of the predators drove them back. The girls did not want them to know where they lived so they were dumped off across campus from their dorm. One of the three predators screamed back at them "you're welcome".
Jane Doe called her mom who immediately called the UC Davis campus police and asked if they had any female officers who could come and get her. The person on the phone instructed her to have her daughter walk to their office. In so much pain and with blood on her jeans Jane Doe remained on the phone with her mom while she walked to their department.
Campus police did not take a report, only gathered enough information to determine that a crime had occurred. This rape will not be on their Clery report. Davis city police never entered into the situation, this rape will not be in their reports either.
After gathering clothes from Jane Doe's dorm an assigned UC Davis Advocate drove Jane Doe back to Fairfield to the Fairfield Police Department. The Fairfield Police took the report.
Without direction from Jane Doe, the Fairfield Police with Advocate drove to what they thought might be the house. Jane Doe identified the house as being the one she was raped in.
The Fairfield Police with Advocate took Jane Doe to a hospital in Fairfield. Jane Doe was given various STD drugs, including the HIV prevention drug, antibiotics etc... among other procedures, Jane Doe was also given a "Rape Kit" exam. The doctors comment upon examining all of her brutally lacerated insides, "Nobody would consent to this". |
